Laser-based element analysis of Steel: Best Student Oral Presentation Award, 1st place

Stefan Grünberger received the Best Student Oral Presentation Award for his contribution entitled "Combination of Laser Ablation and Spark Discharge in LA-SD-OES and comparison with LIBS” that he presented at the 11th Euro-Mediterranean Symposium on Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy EMSLIBS 2021 (29 Nov to 2 Dec 2021) in Gijon, Spain. In the talk, Stefan reported on his research and development of laser-based techniques for the spectrochemical element analysis of steel from industrial production. The steel materials can be analyzed directly in air and with only very little sample preparation using the techniques LIBS (Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy) and LA-SD-OES (Laser ablation-spark discharge-optical emission spectroscopy). The performance of both techniques is compared and specific advantages of either technique are identified.

This research is part of the FFG K-project PSSP and is conducted at the JKU Institute of Applied Physics (A.Univ.-Prof. Dr. Johannes D. Pedarnig) in co-operation with the industrial project partner voestalpine Stahl GmbH. The consortium leader of the PSSP project is RECENDT GmbH, Linz.
